HGTV on Hatteras
Hatteras Island was the focus on HGTV’s show, “My House Is Worth What?”. Pie Town Productions came to town to film two segments of the HGTV show in Avon and Buxton. Canal front homeowners in Avon wanted to know what their home was worth after their purchase and remodel in 2004. The Buxton homeowners remodeled an old island home built in 1916 so it is now a beautifully charming home with modern conveniences. When I received a phone call from the producer asking if I would be interested in participating as their real estate pro, I was elated about the chance to take part in the opportunity to share a bit of Hatteras with the rest of America. As one of HGTV’s most popular shows, “My House Is Worth What?” has over 1 million viewers each episode. After all, our real estate market could only stand to gain from the exposure.
The obvious theme of the show is right up my alley. Before I began selling sand castles, I enjoyed a great career appraising residential homes and land for many years. Pricing is my strong suit and pricing is the most important part of selling a property in today’s market.
Now, I do have to admit that we are definitely in a very tough market and pricing homes today has become harder than I have encountered in my 20 years of experience. Declining values, foreclosure sales, limited funds availability and a depressed economy have all taken their toll on our most valuable asset - real estate.Those of you that currently own a property at the beach need a Realtor that will shoot you straight concerning the most probable sales price of your property.
